United Nations Women
Addressing the Prevalence and Impact of Manosphere Content Online
Discussing the Impact of Climate Injustice on Women
Format: HMUN
Council Background
As the lead United Nations entity on gender equality and secretariat of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, it shifts laws, institutions, social norms, and services to close the gender gap and build an equal world for all women and girls. Its partnerships with governments, women's movements and the private sector, coupled with its coordination with the broader United Nations, deliver lasting changes.
SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls worldwide. Referring to target 5.1, which aims to eliminate gender-based discrimination against women worldwide, aligns with the agenda: Addressing the Prevalence and Impact of Manosphere Content Online, inherently targeting women by pushing its misogynistic agendas. On the other hand, referring to target 5.7 which aims to provide equal rights to economic resources, property ownership, and financial services, collides with the agenda: Discussing the Impact of Climate Injustice on Women, as women often receive less aid due to social constructs that leave their circumstances less recognised than men.
Agenda 1
Addressing the Prevalence and Impact of Manosphere Content Online
Concerns the rise of “manosphere content” (i.e, Andrew Tate, Myron Gaines), in which men engage with each other to belittle women and become misogynistic as a result of the content that the algorithms provide. When this phenomenon spreads and normalises, imagine the impact it has on the upbringing of men and how further discrimination upon women can be justified.
Agenda 2
Discussing the Impact of Climate Injustice on Women
Concerns the phenomenon in which certain areas of the world face more dire consequences of climate change, and more people are left vulnerable. The agenda concerns how social constructs between men and women can leave women even more vulnerable when burdened with a more unfortunate ecological state.
