UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a specialized agency dedicated to strengthening international cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and information.
SDG 16 aims to promote peaceful, inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions. Referring to Target 16.4 of this certain SDG, by 2030, aims to significantly reduce illicit financial and arms flows, strengthen the recovery and return of stolen assets and combat all forms of organized crime which aligns well with our agenda: Concerning the Preservation & Reconstruction of Historical Sites in War-torn Countries. For the latter discussion, simultaneously, Addressing the Erosion of Media Independence is a direct pursuit of Target 16.10, which mandates public access to information and the protection of fundamental freedoms.
Agenda 1
Concerning the Preservation & Reconstruction of Historical Sites in War-torn Countries
Regions in conflict are heavily impacted by mass destruction, not only to residential areas and infrastructure, but also towards historical sites that are deemed to be national treasures in their respective countries which are essential for preserving cultural identity, fostering educational opportunities, and driving economic growth through tourism.
Agenda 2
Addressing the Erosion of Media Independence in the Digital Age
Concerns media independence, where news outlets can publish independently due to the absence of intimidators (governments, terrorists, gangs) and recognises the gradual decrease of independence from intimidators in an age where political biases and large-scale conspiracy shape the narrative of free flow media.
