United Nations - Energy
Optimising Transnational Energy Flows through AI
Format: Modified-HMUN
Council Background
Aiming to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, UN-Energy aims to promote coherence between member states in accordance with SDG 7, with a number of means, such as switching to renewable forms of energy, while consuming it responsibly to prevent pollution.
SDG 7 Referring to target 7.2, which aims to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, aligns perfectly with the Agenda: Optimising Transnational Energy Flows through AI, as it aims to utilise AI to maximise energy flows through transnational grids, while ensuring that AI is used responsibly, with minimal waste/pollution produced.
Agenda
Optimising Transnational Energy Flows through AI
Concerns the usage of AI in precision predictions about how much energy will be available at a certain time, using a combination of historical and real-time data, which lead to a cleaner power grid by allowing companies to better utilize these resources. AI is also used in detecting system failure in the transnational energy flows, which can help to prevent energy source disturbance to humans. This usage is currently under research by MIT engineers, due to its potential in the future.
