The Independence of Malaya
Federal Legislative Council (Historical Dewan Rakyat), December 1955
Format: Standardised DR-MUN
The Federal Legislative Council is the precursor to the Dewan Rakyat, acting as the legislative body of the Federated Malay States. With 52 elected and 48 appointed members, the appointed members consist of racial minorities, industry interests, trade unions, state government representatives, and Crown-appointed cabinet members. As of 1955, the FLC concerns itself with gaining Malaya's independence from Britain.
Taking place before the independence of Malaya, the FLC explores the fine balance between political upheaval and economic development. The unique presence of industry leaders in the FLC allows major industries direct input in the independence of Malaya, and what that means of Malaya's economy and development.
