The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is formally known as the first committee under the United Nations General Assembly. Comprising of all 193 member states of the United Nations, it is tasked with maintaining international security and deals with global challenges that hinder the world’s path towards a safer tomorrow.
The Disarmament and International Security Committee aims to reduce the threats posed by armed conflict and ensure the safety of communities worldwide. This intersects with SDG 11, which calls for sustainable cities and communities. Through promoting global security, DISEC creates environments where cities can thrive in peace and resilience.
